2026 Audi A6 Sedan First Look: This Midsize Luxury Sedan Isn’t Electric Yet

We’ve seen the electric A6 E-Tron, those in Europe lucky enough to be guaranteed the opportunity to buy the new A6 Avant wagon have seen that model, and now, at last, we have the sedan most ordinary: Here’s the 2026 Audi A6 sedan, in all its fossil-fuel-burning glory.
If it looks familiar, that’s probably because its styling is very similar to that of the A6 E-Tron, both outside and in. Despite the visual similarities, the two cars ride different platforms entirely, with the A6 E-Tron on Premium Platform Electric (PPE) and this here A6 Sedan on Premium Platform Combustion (PPC). The two cars are two different sizes, too; the gas-fed A6 is about 2.5 inches longer and 1.5 inches wider than the electric version, but it’s wheelbase is 0.9 inch shorter. (Did you get all that? There will be a test at the end of this article.) And while the A6 E-Tron is technically a hatchback, the A6 sedan is—well, it’s a sedan, with a 17.8-cubic-foot trunk.

Despite some difference in details on the doors and the dash, the gas A6’s interior layout is much like that of the A6 E-Tron. We complained about screen proliferation in the outgoing A6, and the new version benefits from some consolidation. One sweeping panel now houses both the instrument panel and touch-screen center display (11.9 and 14.5 inches respectively). There’s an optional 10.9 inch screen for the passenger, allowing them to browse the web, stream video, or serve as navigation co-pilot, with all activity shielded from the driver. What? That’s not enough screens? Okay: The A6’s optional head-up display allows the driver to control the stereo and other functions via steering-wheel buttons, while keeping their eyes on—or at least closer to—the road.
Expect a Bang & Olufsen stereo with up to 20 speakers to be on the option list, and you’ll have a more quiet environment in which to enjoy it. Better glass, door and trunk sealing will reduce interior noise by about 30 percent, Audi says, while the tires are equipped with “so-called noise absorbers” (yes, Audi used the phrase so-called in their own press release; doth we detect a little friction in the tire-automaker relationship?). Snark aside, these are often foam or other acoustic material liners for the tires themselves that dampen tire singing over the road.

Audi plans to offer gas, diesel, mild hybrid, front- and all-wheel-drive versions, but not in the U.S. All of our A6s will get a 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 delivering 362 horsepower through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and Quattro all-wheel-drive. Audi plans to offer an adaptive air suspension and four-wheel-steering as options, and wheel choices ranging from 19 in to 21 in, with the 21s wearing summer performance tires as opposed to the standard-fit all-season run-flats.

The Audi A6 sedan is scheduled to arrive in the second half of 2025, though the ever-changing tariff situation could change that. Audi will release pricing, fuel economy, and more specific specifications closer to the A6’s on-sale date, along with U.S.-specific photos; all of the A6s pictured here are European variants.
